2 januari 2025

Listening

Listen to the sounds of nature

Listen with your eyes wide and shut off

From everything else but You in the moment

Use your senses and know ..

It is a gift to be aware of Your presence

In that great big universe

Strength and Hope are everywhere

Why look outside when there is You

Find that force inside of you

That force that makes you grow

Into that lovely soul

That is the ultimate you

Verrassing!!

Lieve groet,

Juliet Joan

Inspiration for the month of June

“You cannot, you cannot use someone else’s fire. You can only use your own. And in order to do that, you must first be willing to believe that you have it.” – Audre Lorde

June’s story

In the context of Audre Lorde’s quote and with the realization of philosophy and religion of Spiritualism I would like to work with Audre’s words in relation to the 7th principle, Eternal Progress open to every human soul.

First, I would like to adapt the word Fire to Inspiration.

Definition of Inspiration according to Oxford Languages:

1.     the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.

2.     a sudden brilliant or timely idea.

We have infinite possibilities to grow and evolve spiritually. What this principle suggests is that we should strive to progress to a higher understanding of life, away from the ties of oppressive ideas and opinions that are taught. We should consider all that we have learnt so far, as a springboard to the world of infinity. The moment we become curious about something we have the choice to examine it, study the subject and become free thinkers and find that fire inside of us, that drives us forward.

I have found a beautiful example of this in “Richard Bach’s – Jonathan Livingston Seagull”. This is the story of a gull leaving everything behind to go out in the unknown world to explore, to find his own personal boundaries, to progress.

The discovery and investigation of quantum physics since the beginning of the 20
th century is a wonderful example of the human mind struggling and stretching to find answers to complex and unsatisfying propositions. Quantum physics have also opened a doorway into solving mysteries that have to do with parapsychology. (Broughton – Parapsychology, the controversial science).

Mankind have evolved from primitive barbarous ancient times. It has been a slow, painful struggle to the ‘more civilised/enlightened’ stage of existence we have in this world today. This struggle continues throughout existence on into the spiritual and will throughout time.

On an individual level, man struggle with their ‘lower animal nature’, their desire for sensuous pleasures, their greed and instinct for aggression. But we know we can progress away from this to higher fulfilment, to seek out nobler goals. We may accomplish progress but by doing so we become aware of even greater possibilities before us and through the Spirit world we are informed that this expanding awareness goes on forever.

Nature, human history and our own experience show us that the old resists the new. Change is unsettling, it is a journey into the unknown. The competing forces of progress with stagnation cause disharmony and negative influences. The 7th Principle “Eternal Progress open to every human soul” reminds us to seek out progress; that the potential for progress is inexhaustible and will inevitably lead mankind to higher and higher levels of Spiritual existence. We progress with love as a result of our experience and knowledge and all can share in this advancement if they so desire.

It is at this point, that I like to refer to Audre Lorde’s words again.

“You cannot, you cannot use someone else’s fire. You can only use your own. And in order to do that, you must first be willing to believe that you have it.”

(Audre Geraldine Lorde was born on February 18, 1934, in New York City, and went on to become a leading African American poet and essayist who gave voice to issues of race, gender and sexuality).

Contemplations in the month of March

Quote for March

“Heaven is not located on high, but where the good of love is, and this resides within a person, wherever he or she might be”. - Emanuel Swedenborg

March’s story

Meditation/Mindfulness

I decided to write about Meditation and Mindfulness, two concepts that lie closely together and about which I found loads of information on the internet to share with you. Years ago, when the term mindfulness became popular, I was wondering if the terminology (the difference) is easier to understand in English than in other languages. Therefore, this short “study”.

I discovered a long time ago that for me, within Spiritualism, meditation is a good way, a necessity even, to attune to the Spirit world, but also, that being mindful is a great good in this hectic world we live in.

Similarities

Meditation and mindfulness embody many similarities and can overlap, but the terms are not exactly interchangeable. Let’s take a closer look.

We live in a time when Eastern philosophy has seeped into the mainstream Western way of life. Words like meditation and mindfulness have become everyday terms in Western colloquialism, but these words aren’t interchangeable.

Because they’re often used in a similar context, confusion about the differences is understandable. There are many ways to define, describe, and practice both, and their practical applications are incredibly intertwined.

Meditation

Meditation typically refers to formal, seated meditation practice. There are many types of meditation. Those that focus on opening your heart, expanding your awareness, calming your mind, experiencing inner peace, and the list goes on.

Some examples:

Breath-awareness meditation

Loving-kindness meditation

Mantra-based meditation

Visualization meditation

Guided meditation

Meditation is an intentional practice, where you use focus to increase calmness, concentration, awareness, and emotional balance. Seated meditation usually begins with deep breathing in a comfortable position, bringing all your awareness to your breath and consciously guiding the mind toward an anchor, or a single point of focus. In meditation, you typically spend a focused amount of time, anywhere from a minute to an hour or more, tuned inward.

Mindfulness is the act of paying attention and noticing and being present in whatever you’re doing. When you are being actively mindful, you are noticing the world around you, as well as your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, movements and the effect you have on others around you.

You can practice mindfulness anytime, anywhere, and with anyone by being fully engaged in the here and now. Many people go about their daily lives with their minds wandering from the actual activity they are participating in, to other thoughts, desires, fears, or wishes. When you’re mindful, you are actively involved in the activity with all of your senses, in the present moment, gently bringing yourself back to the conversation or task at hand, instead of allowing your mind to wander.

Mindfulness can be practiced both informally (at any time or place) and formally (during seated meditation).

Where meditation is usually practiced for a specific amount of time, mindfulness can be applied to any situation throughout the day.

It can be difficult for the human mind to stay in the present moment. In fact, a Harvard study found that people spend 46.9 percent of their waking hours thinking about something other than what they are doing. This kind of mindlessness is the norm, as the mind spends its time focused on the past, the future, or muddling in should have’s and what if’s. The study also found that allowing the brain to run on auto-pilot like this can make people unhappy. “A wandering mind is an unhappy mind,” the researchers said.

This is where mindfulness can help. Here’s an example of an informal mindfulness practice you can try at any time of the day:

5 Senses Practice

Any time you complete a simple task—like brushing your teeth or washing your dishes, tune into your five senses—sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. For each sense, name two to three examples of the things you notice as you complete the task.

For example, when you’re brushing your teeth, you may notice:

The flavour of the paste on your tongue.

The smell of the paste coming through your nostrils.

The cooling sensations.

The way the toothbrush moves over your teeth and gums.

The sounds of the bristles moving back and forth in your mouth.

Your reflection in the bathroom mirror and the lighting in the bathroom.

The tingling sensation of the paste on your gums and teeth.

This practice will help you tune into your surroundings and increase your present-moment awareness. If you practice this with everyday activities—even those you have done a thousand times, you will begin to notice new things about the space you are in, and to inhabit your life and body more deeply.

Practicing mindfulness during formal meditation supports and enriches your ability to be mindful in your everyday life. When you practice formal meditation, you strengthen your focus, presence, and mindfulness in every other part of your life. They feed and support each other, but meditation and mindfulness are two different things.

Groei - Verandering - Leven

Liefs,

Juliet Joan

IT'S A NEW DAY

A card for you today from the Magical Unicorn deck.

This card indicates, that you are in the position to say goodbye to old habits and situations, that have been a burden to you far too long. The temptation to (be held) hold back is present and strong, not in the least because it feels hard to let go and tread new pathways. Know, there is no one pushing you, just feel in your heart and soul the timing is right and your future is winking.

In the process of change, of growth, we need to take up our roots so to say and go out there, looking for more fulfillment.

Keywords: love yourself, follow your heart, hold your head up high.

Writing is something I love to do and fail to do on a regular basis. Although I am not a shy person I tend to withhold from sharing my ideas and thoughts, but every now and I feel I have to give in to that need, for a need it is.

Picking a card from one of my lovely "decks" and tune in to the Spirit world for guidance to interpret it, seems like a good idea to do today. I hope you like it and can take something of its meaning for yourself.

Juliet Joan

November

Never ever have I taken health for granted. These past seven months, with so much attention being given to covid-19, I have re-discovered how important it is to be healthy, to feel healthy, but also, that work has to be done in that area, in fact it has number ONE priority.

All of a sudden my morning walks have become a habit and I know in the past I felt there was no time, because other things were much more important. Not anymore. It is such a joy to feel good enough to maintain the new routine introduced 7 months ago. The routine to work out in the morning and have that daily walk and discover, that my energy level is at a nice height.

Today I am going to share a couple of pictures from my daily walks the last couple of days.

Let me start with the geese on a chimney top. I hope you can see them, they are very observant and do not like us to come much closer.

In the village I live in, a lot of old farmland has been replaced by modern buildings. In the middle of such an area an old chimney has been left. Why did they leave it there? Is it to remember the days gone by? Is it to make sure a couple of geese have a resting place on their way to find a suitable location to spend the winter?

Just looked it up. It is an old chimney used in the old days for combustion plants in greenhouse horticulture. Well, geese like it, because I notice them regularly.

We have been so lucky with the weather so far. This is the month of November. We have had mist and sunshine in the mornings and rain in the evenings. Many birds are singing their song and we feel blessed to be able to daily enjoy nature. In the woods the leaves are turning into red and golden.

In our garden everything is coming to a standstill, the trees and plants  are getting ready for winter, directing their energy inwards, gathering strength to surprise us with their beauty once more when it is spring.

Getting "lost" in possibilities - part 2

So much has happened after the post of April 26, with the same title.
https://foetoejepi.blogspot.nl/2017/04/getting-lost-in-possibilities.html

In fact it was about the balance in life, my life.
Finding balance is always a personal thing. We can become absorbed with the things that make our life worthwhile, that give our life meaning, that make us feel happy and acknowledged, only to find out at a certain point, that something is missing or that we need replenishment of our energy because we have lost sight of the "big whole".

Did I already mention the influence of our two brain halves on ourSelf?

To illustrate this subject a bit better than I could possibly do I have copied an article for you with thanks to" Livescience". It looks a bit difficult to read, but it makes clear that scientists are not (yet) convinced there is a difference between left and right.

During all the years that I have studied different forms of therapy, it was a starting point, though, a starting point that I have embraced fully.

Now that I am in my "golden years" I feel the need to explore the left side, the more logical side of the brain a bit more.
Playing bridge is supporting me in this. It is so different from Spiritualism .. it activates my logical side and gives the words "clarity", "clear mindedness", "openness" and "being in balance" another meaning.
"Are you right-brained or left-brained?
It's a popular question, hovering at the edges of sound neuroscience. The left brain is supposed to be more creative and artistic, the right brain more organized and logical. Indeed, Google "right-brain dominance" or "left-brain dominance," and you'll find endless blog posts on the subject. You'll also find quizzes that purport to tell readers which sort of person they are." (For the rest of the article click on the link below).

https://www.livescience.com/32935-whats-the-difference-between-the-right-brain-and-left-brain.html

Enjoy your life and remember there are two sides to a coin, there is light and dark, black and white and that there is always a middle.
With regards to the brain .. try to mix your practicality with your emotions and vice versa. See the beautiful and complete person that you are.

Any questions/remarks feel free to drop me a line.

With love,
Juliet Joan

Vrij zijn

De wind waait door mijn haren
Langs gloeiende wangen .. zonder vragen

Matters of the heart - 6 - Compassion

The heart chakra is about love. Love of self and love of others. The colours that resonate with it best are pink and green. The element is air. Think of earth and all her abundance. Feel the beating of your heart in tune with your breath .. Feel the expansion of your lungs .. You may BREATHE.

Challenge

It is quite a task I have given myself. Writing about heart matters is not easy.
Oh well, I like challenges.

I have discovered, that it is really all about accepting yourself, with all the strengths and vulnarabilities, and also that the major trick to survive and not to drown in a pool of misery when you are hurt is to keep focussing on your own inner strength.
If you think about it, the only one you can trust to be totally honest is your Self, that part of you that is connected to your soul, to the God you believe in. Of course it also that same part of you that needs exploring, and THAT is a lifelong journey.

Compassion

It helps me to remember that I am not the only one in distress every now and then.
A big item related to compassion is Love. Do not go out there and cry along with someone else and mistake that for compassion. In my opinion it is best to strengthen your back, find your own inner strength and face whatever needs to be faced, with your own set of values on board and the love that carries you along. I find compassion in a loving face, a caress, a listening ear, a field of flowers like in the picture of my secret garden in this post.

Do not think that I don't care
If I don't cry visibly along with you
Do realize my tears do not ease your burden
It is my strength that can carry you along.

With love,
Juliet Joan
