The Seven Principles of Spiritualism - part 2

Unbelievable.
It is only 6 years ago, that I first heard of Spiritualism, a religion, that has really captured me.
Studying and contemplating the Seven Principles, that form its basis has become a daily exercise.

Within these Principles I have found a way to live my life and explain to myself and to others if they are interested what they enfold. The beauty of them (for me) is that they are open to personal interpretation.
I must admit, that in the beginning they frightened me, not being brought up in a churchgoing family, they seemed strange and I wanted to stay away, afraid to lose my own being and becoming part of something that would "swallow" me.

Today's truth is, that it has given me richness and openness and ground for standing firmly on my own two feet .. well most of the time anyways.

These coming days I shall publish their interpretation as I saw and felt them four years ago with some addition.

Nr. 2 - The Brotherhood of man.

It is logical for me to believe in the Brotherhood of man and seeing other people as coming from the same universal life source. Over the years I have learnt a lot about myself. The more I do the more meaningful this particular Principle becomes. In accepting and feeling the First Principle this Second Principle gets anchored.

This Principle is about love. Love for myself and through that for others. By accepting who I am and what I needed in life to feel happy, I started to recognize a similar pattern in others. I also found out, that the happier I am the better I can help others, just by being me. I truly feel this brings me closer to Spirit, which brings a glow of love that is capable of affecting others in a positive way. It is so often that I meet people and just by smiling I notice their spirits lift, or just a talk about the weather can do so much good. Just saying “hello” to a stranger when walking outside sometimes makes me notice how that person thinks, “wow, somebody has actually seen me”. These are such simple gestures and it almost breaks my heart every now and then that in our society there seems to be so little time for this. Again, I can refer to the words of Chief Seattle “whatever we do to the web of life, we do to ourselves.” Good to remember isn’t it.

The date today is August 9, 2014

This Principle is rather difficult to bring into practice when we feel the need to change the world into the one that we would like it to be.
We like to think that our views are the best, that they are the ones that should reign the world. Ah, that is a restricting view in my opinion.
Let us not forget the importance  of learning, self learning and of course .. setting an example of how life could be lived. Why don't we just start on a scale, that we can handle .. our personal life. It is difficult enough, isn't it, but it is a start. "Love thy neighbour as you love yourself" is a very old expression and if I take it literally, I can look into the needs of the people close to me and see if they need a reaching hand.
I find it very difficult to watch the news and feel my incompetence in bringing personal joy and peace to all those people out there, fleeing their homes and countries. The only way I can sleep peaceful at night is when I have said a prayer and sent out love and light to where it may be useful and in so doing feel the lightness in my soul.
